“Will key workers be prioritised within their age groups?” – Plaid Cymru calls for clarity

Responding to the announcement that schools could start to open in Wales from 22 February, Leader of Plaid Cymru, Adam Price MS said,

“Classroom based learning is the most effective way of educating children and every possible measure must be taken to safeguard the health and wellbeing of pupils and staff.

“Whilst the vulnerable groups should not be de-prioritised in the vaccine rollout, we need to see a plan that gives clarity to key workers on when they can expect to be inoculated.

“Due to their age, many key workers will be in age groups which will be prioritised for the vaccine. We need clarity on whether or not they will be prioritised within those age groups.

“In America, the role of vaccination in allowing society to return to normal is a key consideration and the Chief Medical Officer should give equal consideration to the question in Wales.

“There is currently limited evidence on whether being vaccinated prevents an individual from passing the virus on to others. An indication on the likely completion of studies in this field will further inform decisions regarding expediting the rollout to certain groups.”
